Jermaine Dye

Atlanta reunion?

GM Kenny Williams is looking into trading Jermaine Dye in his attempt to make his team younger, more athletic, and faster. Dye is an attractive option at a corner outfield spot, but would your team want him?

He's 35 next season, so he's beginning to reach that time in his career where he should start to decline, but declining from .292/.344/.541 could still help a lot of teams. Dye's a pretty athletic and well-built guy who played 151 games in the outfield, so he's still able to help out an NL team. But will he still let you down? He just had a rebound year. Was the rebound year just a rebound and nothing better? Probably not. His BABIP was .305, but it was a low .271 the previous season. He'll probably hit .280 or around that for your team. His BB% was low for him at 6.9 (career 8.2, so it wasn't down a whole lot), so his OBP will probably stay around .340. As for his SLG, a move to a more pitcher-friendly stadium will probably bring it down closer to .500. Now, let's account for age, and he should be a .270/.340/.480 player next season. I can think of a lot of teams in need of that.

As for the price-tag, the article mentions it would take two major-league-ready players, and his contract calls for $11.5M next season and an option for '10 at $12M with a $1M butout. He's affordable from a money standpoint. As for prospects, it doesn't seem to be too much. Would the White Sox take a combination of Gorkys Hernandez/Josh Anderson/Charlie Morton/Jo-Jo Reyes/Brent Lillibridge?
