Furcal Excited by Interest from Braves

It seems longer than Wright's career that Furcal has been gone.

The Braves have a young, cheap, and talented shortstop that is under their control for at least five more years. His name is Yunel Escobar. The last time the Braves had a guy like this, his name was Rafael Furcal. Well, it looks like Furcal may be coming back. That might have been a little strong. Well, it looks like the Braves are interested in bringing him back. That's better. Even though the Peavy talks are dead, the Braves still have interest in bringing back the free-agent shortstop who will likely get a three or four year deal worth $12-13M per season. Why?

Well, this tells us a few things. One, Escobar may have peeved a few more people off than we thought. You just don't look to trade a guy like him unless there's something wrong. By keeping interest in Furcal, it shows that Escobar may be headed out the door. Two, the Peavy talks are not "dead". They're just under anesthesia. If you don't trade Escobar, where is Furcal going to go? Three, Furcal may go to second and Johnson may be on his way out of town. Second might be less strenuous on Furcal and give the Braves an incredible duo up the middle. Four, the Peavy talks may be going nowhere, but that doesn't mean that no one else is interested in Escobar. There were rumors the Twins were in on him, and an Escobar-Young or Escobar-Slowey deal might be in the offing. Wren doesn't let things leak and may be holding this under wraps. Would Tampa be interested? Escobar for Garza? Okay, I'm doing more speculating than I should. But it seems that Wren intends to move Escobar, for someone. Whether it's Peavy remains to be seen.
