Well, the truth seems to have come out now. Reports indicate that Manny Ramirez, and many other Red Sox, are upset that Youkilis throws his helmet and bats when he has a bad at-bat. Especially when they are in first place, the team feels there is no need for such attitude on the team.
Honestly, this is the first bad thing I have ever heard about Kevin Youkilis. Usually, everyone says how great he is. On the flip side, the Red Sox, and Manny for that matter, are correct in stating that Youk's behavior is unacceptable. When I was in Chicago last weekend, I saw a couple Little League games that my cousins were in. In those two or three games, I must have seen at least three kids throw their bat (my cousin wasn't one of them, but he looked mad enough to after striking out).
This is a bad habit to get into. First, it makes you seem like a hot-head who thinks he should always get a hit. Second, it shows an individualistic attitude because you ignore how you throwing things affects everyone else (puts others in a bad mood, breaks other things, could hurt someone, etc.). Third, it teaches kids that getting really angry is a good thing. Fourth, it shows that you have no perspective. Baseball is just a game. It has no where near the importance of education, health care, politics, or economics, but you act like one bad at-bat is the end of the world. Even in baseball, one bad at-bat is no big deal. You only have to succeed 3/10 times to be really successful. To be above-average, you need to go about 2.7 out of every ten.
