Well, Chipper (Larry Wayne) Jones hit his 400th home run tonight. Milestones like that make us wonder where he sits all-time. Is he the best third baseman ever? Is he the best Brave? Is he Hall worthy. Lots of people have been talking about him over the past few months, and most think he's Hall worthy, or at least will be. Let's take a look:
.310 BA
.406 OBP
.549 SLG
400 HR
1338 RBI
1339 R
1187 BB
1103 K
5 All-Stars (probably soon to be 6)
1 MVP (6 top 10's)
2 Silver Sluggers
Pretty good numbers by most standards. The home run totals should raise by 80 by the time he's done, which puts him below 500. He'll also end up with just less than 2,000 RBI. But let's take a look at some interesting stats. First, he's walked more than struck out, which is incredible. Second, his run and RBI numbers are almost identical, which is pretty amazing. Here are his places on all-time lists:
HR - 43rd
RBI - 79th
BB- 54th
All of these will go up by at least 10 if not 20 spots by the time he's done. I think he's Hall worthy.
