How Good is Good Enough?

I don't think I want to hear this from my 36-year old All-Star catcher that I just signed for $52.4 million for four years. Are the Yankees running him out too early in an attempt to get back in the AL East Race? Does Hank have anything to do with it? Color me stupid, but Posada doesn't seem too excited to be back out there. They are saying that Posada will only play two out of the next four games until he is fully healthy. First, to get him healthy, he could probably use another week off, maybe four or five days. Second, having Posada for the next 100 games outweighs what he could do in the two of four he will play coming up. If he gets hurt again, he'll be out longer than he had to be.

Also, does this injury seriously put into doubt that Varitek will get a decent deal next winter? He's about the same age, so you have to think the Red Sox are going to keep tabs on how Posada performs. Varitek wasn't going to get a Posada-type deal, but he could have gotten a decent three-year deal. Now, maybe one or two years (which would probably be most appropriate anyway, just not up to market value) is about all he'll get.
